| 9/11, so many meanings for so many
people. The year leading up to this day has been less than jovial in my
personal life. However, the happenings in NY and Washington DC of a year
ago put things in perspective. My personal life has not been touched by
this. My heart goes out for those that have. There have been specials on
the History Channel about the events of September 11th and prior to that
date, a special on the World Trade Center Towers themselves. The sad
statement in that was that it wasn't a documentary but an obituary.
Living History I happen to work with young people. Many in the age of going to college. Some have or have had inspirations of teaching history. They have found learning history rather hard since they have been living it for the last decade. The world we live in now must have some semblance to the world our parents lived in. Nothing sets you up for this, or how you will feel about it. We, as Americans are not experienced in terror tactics. We can learn from other country's about it. Ireland comes to mind. Israel of course has not known peace for the last 2000 years. Peace Of Mind Now we may never have any. Some worry, some think they do not. September 11th is like Pearl Harbor in many ways. Well one in particular, it is a day that will live in infamy. During the cold war I always worried about an attack on our shores from Russia. I'll never forget an article I read in a science magazine about the prophesies of Nostrodomas. This was back in the early part of the last decade. They talked of a prophesy of an attack on US soil, but not by Russia. Nostrodomas had it sounding like Arabs. The article authors wanted to be more specific. Back then it was still Iran as the major threat. These are old texts, open to interpretation. However it is interesting. What makes it easy to accept is the very idea that Arabs were able to push back a major power like Russia. Not a beating Russia has been able to recover from. September 11th 2003 I imagine that airports and government offices will be on high alert. However, I really do not think these terrorists work like that. They are clever. We had figuratively speaking, our pants down. In addition we were caught with them that way. It may take years again for these terrorists to to catch us again. The US can't afford that. The bombing of the World Trade Center Towers should have told us that years ago. Makes what I say about them not doing the same thing twice, redundant. It was the same place but in a completely unreal way. Hollywood couldn't have come up with anything better. Such an unreal happening that if you were to just walk into a room where it was playing out on TV, you would think you were watching a movie. It is numbing to say the least. In Closing Words can not do any of this justice. Nothing can make sense of this. Writing about it is my way of dealing with it and those that caused such a thing. Our President has been moved to action. It will take time to see where said action takes the rest of us. Topper |
