I can only imagine what the headlines planned were. The assumed thing would have been, chaos in the streets, looting, and burning in the city of darkness. None of that to report, gladly. Some think it funny, but I was never so glad to be an American, or proud, as I was the day of August 14th. A day that will in live infamy for what happened? No, for what didn’t happen. Peace for the most part reigned throughout the land. I call it wonderful. As for the black out. The nay Sayers of the media will call it terrorism. Oh let them have their fun and ignore the big picture. What is the big picture? Sure the lights went out, and in many places for more than 24 hours. The estimate was short, the reality long. But even in that, society held it together, and each other. That is the real story. The human interest story behind this whole ordeal. People held together and each other, pitched in to help the police and direct traffic. I too waited for the news that never came. The news of wide spread rioting and looting. The media made their way as best they could to Detroit; surely some form of lawlessness is to rule the day there, sorry folks, move on nothing to see here. I sit in awe, you want shock n’ awe, this is it. Or lack of it. The lack of what could have been is the amazing thing. Albeit the happiest by far. I for one can not get over it. A power outage of gigantic proportion and not even a movie of the week out of it.

American Resolve

I can not ignore our neighbors to the north; they too held it together also. But I know not of O’Canada. All I know is again I am proud to call myself an American. I really am. I mean really. This area that was held in darkness was a big chunk of the populace. It is a great story, the one that didn’t happen. There is more to that day to write about. I went to a court of appeal, more or less just a hearing regarding my Unemployment benefits. I guess I need to be a little resolved myself. However I do not know for how much longer. Be that as it may. It is well beside the point. Technology is what it is, and the technology that holds our power is well antiquated. Funny thing though, now we can watch the finger pointing. And point they will we know that. Who cares? The finger pointing is more entertainment and business as usual. It is rather difficult to put together a couple paragraphs regarding the power outage. Could have been worse but it wasn’t. I guess with our men and women dieing over seas, and the world the mess that it is, I guess a power outage was like, amen something familiar to deal with, no big. That is another story, the psychology of “what happened.” Or why it didn’t . Something to ponder.
