It is no wonder that he doesn't do these press conferences very often. He is not a charismatic figure. And as others have said afterward that he seems detached from reality. That is an understatement.

He is determined to hand over power to Iraq on June thirtieth. The interesting point he made that I did not miss is everything hinges on next year. President Bush has done this quite a bit during his run, and that is try to guarantee a re-election. It is my hope that the American people do not fall for any of this. We have too much at stake in this world to leave foreign affairs to him. His foreign policy is awful. After 9/11 Iraq has just been wrong. Alas we are stuck with it. They (the President as well) have said that 20/20 hindsight (in regards to 9/11) they could have done more, however I believe that they could have used that hindsight looking at Iraq right now as a mistake.

We will be here again, Saddam was a man we helped get into power. Osama Bin Ladin had been trained by the CIA as far as I know. That information is before George Bush and probably before Clinton. However one fact that remains Osama Bin Ladin is very much still on the loose and just as dangerous. I really do not think and have never believed that Saddam has been any direct threat to us. Our enemy's have varied over time. Furthermore the US goes forward in making more. As Ted Kennedy said, Iraq is Bush's Vietnam. Many think that is true, and I tend to agree.

To some small degree this manic approach has worked. Muamar Kadafi has made amends but that has been ongoing as I have researched. Hamas made some hateful remarks toward the united states but rephrased almost the same day that sentiment.

They keep running around 9/11 with the 9/11 commission and finger pointing all around it. But Bush's answer to 9/11 was Iraq, meanwhile as I stated Osama is still on the loose and able to orchestrate an attack in Spain 911 days after September eleventh, coincidence? I think not.  But I do think that this administration thought that Iraq was a target that would be easier to deal with than terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Bush tonight during his conference spelled that out in saying that Iraq was a terror. In my view Iraq and Saddam were something they could understand, or so they thought.

Successes in Afghanistan

I can't wait to get a transcript of the conference as I surely will find one somewhere. But Afghanistan has successes that because of Iraq are lost. Afghanistan is seeing a new day of a new constitution, new provinces and a call for disarmament. You can make a comparison between Germany and Japan. Two wars happening at the same time that could not have been any more different.

I'll say this

9/11 commission, questions of the war in Iraq, Bush fighting for his political career are things that I believe would not even be considered if indeed Bush would have stayed a course, focused on taking out the ring leader responsible for the 9/11 attacks, Osama Bin Ladin. Nothing would be in question right now if we had Osama behind bars rather than Saddam. It is my belief that President Bush would have had more backing in Iraq had this been the case. As it is Bush is now fighting for his political life.
